Neff Elementary PTO MINUTES
Tuesday, March 11, 2025 6:30pm in person
I want to call the meeting to order, time is 6:37
- Welcome & Introduction: - PTO Board: Rachel Levine, Whitney Tsakonas, Katie Warner, Lori DeTemple, Steph Gerber, , Erin Checchia, Absent: Ruth Wagner, Kelsey Danz 
- Attendee introductions: Taylor Good (Principal), Devon Reichl (Teacher Liaison), Joann Hentz (MTSD Board Representative), Members at large: Sara Bowers, Dilek Aydin 
 
- Approval of minutes from last meeting— January 14, 2025 
Approved
- Principal Report: Taylor Good - MTEF Science Heros - March 28th - Grant allowed for this assembly 
 
- Field Trips paying transportation/nurse next year - Advocated at SLAC to make these equitable across the district 
- Will now be paid for by the district as of 2025/2026 SY 
- District wide tying to Science or Social Studies 
 
- Girls on the Run starting 
- PSSAs - 4/23-4/25 & 4/29-4/30 
- Room Parent - Teacher Feedback - Using Room Parents to recruit new volunteers. Sought teacher feedback on possible solutions 
- Teacher Survey indicated 82% were okay with either, 6% yes, 11% no - Look to get for Back to School night to recruit for 2025/26 SY

- Treasurer Report: Steph Gerber and Lori DeTemple - Budget review- ATTACHED 
- Lititz Orthodontics donated $200 
- Projected to end above $10k threshold 
- Venmo may be adjusted to be an independent business page so that it can be accessed easily by event chairs 
 
- SLAC (Superintendent’s Lay Advisory Council) Report: Kisha Johnson, Rachel Levine, Lori DeTemple: - Review topics from 1/13/25 and 3/10/25 
- Special Education/Inclusive Programs - Best Buddies was reviewed 
 
- PTO Sharing: - ipad usage: - Measuring accurate time spent on the technology 
- voice to text being overused 
- iPad coach was available to discuss ways to better utilize the technology as a tool to enhance the education 
- Discussions on integrating ipad usage in most beneficial way to encourage enrichment without loss of skill or engagement 
- Buses: dropping kids off near flow of traffic, will need to do a full stop 
- Respectful and inclusive of all religions by observing high holidays when planning large school events 
 
 
 
- PTO Update: Rachel Levine - MTEF Grant application- Science Heroes - Focusing on application schedule to continue taking advantage of grant opportunities - Review what has been done across the district 
 
 
- Upcoming board vacancies- - Secretary (need) 
- Discussed creating a Sponsorship role or spreading around responsibilities across the board members 
- Social Media and Promotional: Discussed strategies to best inform and engage families - utilize social media to thank and recruit new sponsors 
- Post a Monthly Calendar to post 
- create a standard protocol for promotion of events, requests, notifications 
 
 
- Passive Fundraising - Yearbook- TJ Stewart - Don’t Forget to buy a yearbook! 
 
- Restaurant Nights- Sara Bowers - Primanti’s - $60 
- Mick’s - $30 (possibly make a holiday PTO parent night for next year) 
- Sandwich Factory - ? 
- April - Chipotle 4/2 4pm-8pm 
- May - Mod 5/1 10:30am-10pm 
- June - Restaurant/Ice cream party at Oregon Dairy 6/3 3pm-8pm - How to promote this (15%) Can promote as restaurant and ice cream (6-8) 
 
 
 
- Past Events: - Talent Show! - More volunteers needed for future events - Find strategies for entertaining stage crew, cap the number of stage crew 
- Teacher participation was useful 
 
 
- Movie Night - Less attended, possibly start of spring sports 
 
 
- Upcoming Events - Book Fair - 3/27-3/29 - Sign Up genius has been sent out 
- PTO Book Table: - Sale books, books for each grade, can pick one for each kid instead of using voucher. 
 
 
 
 
- Roller Skating - Date was changed to April 12: 9:30-11:30 - Try to look for some new kindergarten parents 
 
- Spring Fest - May 16 
- Kona ice confirmed; Taco Truck? 
- Bounce Houses with paid staff 
- Balloon twisters 
- PTO sponsored Give and Get:Switch, AG doll, Electric scooter 
- Donations have started coming in 
- Grade Basket; Will provide amazon links for suggestions - k- outdoor fun 
- 1 - pokemon 
- 2 - STEM 
- 3 - Rainy Day? 
- 4 - Squishmallows 
 
- High School Groups to volunteer - Key Club, Teachers of the Future, Art club, 
- $5 wrist bands or $20 max for a family 
- $1 per ticket for Give and Get; Presale will be discounted 
 
- Baskets to be put together on Wednesday before event - May 7 - 2:00 
 
 
- School Board Update: - New SuperIntendent has been chosen and will be voted on at meeting on March 20 
- Sports Teams: Extra adults are present, extra steps are being taken to move forward - Policies being created for future 
 
- Budget: looking for input 
- Monitoring Curriculum changes and outcomes
